This study is part of the preparation process for the accession of Romania to the European Union. The study gives a factual description to allow an evaluation of the readiness of the country to participate in the Single Market with respect to the labour market and employment policies, and also identifies key issues in this area to be addressed in the pre-accession process. The study provides a background for the employment reviews prepared by Directorate General V of the European Commission and has been written under the supervision of DG V and the European Training Foundation.
