The impact of AI on labour markets
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been one of the greatest disruptions in labour markets by automating, augmenting, and redefining tasks and changing how work is performed and valued. Understanding its impact on jobs, working conditions and different social groups is essential to making the most of the opportunities it offers while reducing the risks. This publication provides a review of existing literature regarding the impact of AI on the labour markets and synthesises the main insights from academic research, international/EU organisations, and industry reports. The main effects are presented systematically along the lines of job quantity, job quality and inclusiveness, while the final chapter is dedicated to AI’s potential impact in developing countries. The publication highlights major trends, challenges, and opportunities from AI adoption in workplaces for experts, practitioners and decision-makers in the ETF’s partner countries.
