European Leadership Academy:  Promoting female talent and inclusion in the digital age

This year, the ETF has contributed to the Huawei European Leadership Academy’s programme, “Female Leadership in the Digital Age”.  The programme, which aims to close the gender gap and create a world where women are empowered to be leaders in the digital future, hosted its third edition in Prague in July.  The group of 29 young women representing each of the 27 EU member states as well as the Western Balkans and Ukraine, participated in a dynamic week of expert-led presentations, masterclasses, workshops, and thought-provoking debates and networking events, and much discussion was dedicated to how best to protect the mental health and wellbeing of young people (particularly young women) in the digital age.

The ETF’s unique position as the EU agency focused on education and labour market reforms in the countries surrounding the EU, meant it was able to connect and help identify participants from the Western Balkans and Ukraine to such an EU initiative.  Invited to speak at the first event in Lisbon in 2021 and share its expertise, the ETF also had the pleasure to facilitate workshops and host five of the programme’s participants at an international expert meeting in Turin in June 2022.

ETF’s Senior Human Capital Development Expert for gender issues, Outi Kärkkäinen, underscored the importance of such initiatives.  “In today’s world, the fast-changing landscape of the labour market in Europe and in the surrounding countries means education and training systems must provide young people with the skills they need to lead the transition to a greener, more digital and inclusive society.  The ETF is committed to putting youth centre-stage and helping them reach their full potential”.
