Key policy developments in education, training and employment - Jordan 2024

Date
Jordan has shown remarkable resilience in the midst of a conflict in the Middle East that has had a severe socio-economic impact on the country. Its vulnerability to external shocks, best demonstrated by the decline in tourism, which has been devasted by the conflict that started in October 2023, is not a new development. Jordan hosts an estimated 1.36 million Syrian refugees (12% of the country’s population). It plays an important role in coordinating political and humanitarian support for Palestinians, while facing severe challenges of its own – from widespread water scarcity to nearly 50% youth unemployment (World Bank, 2024a).
