New forms of work and platform work: Italy case study
Italy is among the countries that actively develop national and regional initiatives to regulate platform work. Similar to France, Italian policymakers have adopted an approach that extends social security rights to self-employed platform workers, rather than focusing on reclassifying them as employees.
At the same time, the courts in Italy have been deliberating on cases concerning the status of platform workers, mostly in relation to delivery platforms, and whether employment and labour protection should apply to them.
