    This report is a synthesis of six national reports from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank & Gaza Strip, and Syria. It briefly describes structures and organisation of the current vocational education and training (VET) systems in these 6 MEDA countries. It looks at the current VET strategies and the position of the training of teachers and trainers within these strategies. The types of trainers within the system, and their conditions of employment, including qualifications, status and training tracks to become a trainer, are also considered. Teacher and trainer training institutions are presented, including their missions, organisation, training environment, staff etc. This report covers pre and in-service teacher and trainer training, curricula, pedagogic methods, evaluation etc. It also looks at the present funding arrangements and the contribution of international donors. The quality and relevance of the current training of teachers and trainers is considered and, finally, the report examines the potential strategic orientations and development of the systems of teacher and trainer training in each of the countries and in the Mashrek region in general.
