PRESS RELEASE - European Commission Executive Vice President Roxana Mînzatu visits the European Training Foundation in Turin

Turin, 15 September 2025 – On the occasion of her visit to Turin, the European Commission’s Executive Vice President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Mînzatu, today visited the European Training Foundation (ETF) at Villa Gualino. The meeting marked an important step in strengthening the ETF’s contribution to the European Union’s work on skills development and the promotion of quality employment worldwide.

ETF Director, Pilvi Torsti, welcomed the visit, stating: “We are honoured to welcome Executive Vice President Roxana Mînzatu. Her presence in Turin, an international skills city that has hosted us since 1994 underlines the growing attention the European Union is giving to skills, social equity and quality work at global level. It was a valuable opportunity to discuss how we can support education and training systems to meet today’s challenges, including the demand for qualified labour from third countries”.

During the visit, the ETF’s activities were presented in connection with the European Commission’s new initiative the “Union of Skills”. In the context of ongoing economic, technological and social transformation, the identification, development and recognition of future skills are becoming increasingly important. The visit also included a meeting with ETF staff. 

Background

The European Training Foundation is the EU agency that supports countries surrounding the EU in reforming their education, training and labour market systems. It works with around 30 partner countries, ranging from Ukraine to the Balkans, from the Southern Mediterranean to Central Asia, and with the African Union. The ETF’s Governing Board includes representatives from all 27 EU Member States, with the Mayor of Turin participating in an observer role. The ETF is headquartered in Turin, at Villa Gualino.
