Teacher booster
Teacher Booster is a series of learning videos for teachers and other actors in lifelong learning, designed to boost their capacity to face the challenges of remote learning and raise awareness of the importance of key competences for all learners.
Produced under the European Training Foundation’s (ETF) Creating New Learning (CNL) initiative in close partnership with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, this original video series presents one student and seven education innovators from both the EU and the ETF's partner countries, who share their experience, ideas and 'trade secrets' with the global community of teachers and trainers.
The idea behind Teacher Booster was to create eight TED-talk style videos with key speakers who share 'ideas worth spreading' to help educators in transition from traditional, classroom-based education and training to modes of practice fit for the digital age and a world where social distancing requires going 'beyond the classroom'. These speakers are advanced in the development of entrepreneurial and digital key competences, and related concepts – creativity development, value creation pedagogy, life skills, 21st-century skills, design thinking, change-maker model, social and emotional learning.
Authentic in their content, these videos do not provide 'three quick tips', or 'five easy steps' to becoming a super teacher. Rather the listener is invited into the speakers’ private space, where a real exchange of ideas can happen. The CNL initiative 'explores how successful developments in education […] can be multiplied, transferred and sustained'. From innovative trends to grassroots models, CNL collects resources and ideas on how education and training professionals can support new ways of learning. These new approaches to education and training must be better suited to the current state of the world – at all stakeholder levels.
The design of Teacher Booster
The conceptual design of Teacher Booster videos was inspired by the nine principles of the EntreComp playbook, an innovative collection of practices, tools and examples of how to activate EntreComp in different learning environments. Such principles help establish the right mindset for creating practical learning experiences that allow learners to develop a relevant combination of competences, as selected by educators. They are:
- Experience – plan the entrepreneurial learning experience
- Novelty – focus on new value creation
- Triggers – embed triggers for emotional learning
- Reflection – use reflection to make learning visible
- Ecosystem – connect with the wider ecosystem
- Collaboration – promote collaboration
- Others – engage others
- Mentoring – be a mentor for the learner
- Progression – assess progress through multiple methods
Collectively, Teacher Booster videos apply these nine principles, and include hints to specific key competences underpinning the structure of each video.

Each video is accompanied by an e-learning resource providing key information about the professional experience of the speaker and resources to support further learning. Teacher Booster videos could be used together with Scaffold, an innovative card game created to support educators.
