Networks and partnership: building the future of education

Networks and partnerships for change

Building the future of education

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that collective action is more effective. The commitment to human development is an essential component of the holistic effort needed to address the social challenges of the coming years.

Together for education, we work better

Education is a crucial pillar in achieving the global goals for a more sustainable and egalitarian future. In a globalised world, development involves more and more actors at different levels. Whether in the private or public sector, whether we are talking about teachers or policymakers, one of Europe's priorities is to look beyond its borders: together, we work better.

The education of the future will be greener, digital and resilient; however, with countries moving at different speeds, achieving the goals together will be more difficult, but the whole process will slow down.

The joint political action of several countries in identifying the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is one of the most ambitious political projects in history, focusing on the human being and his home, the Earth. SDG4, in particular, is ETF's primary area of expertise, which aims to promote quality and inclusive education by fostering more opportunities for lifelong learning

The European Union has adhered to the goals promoted by the 2030 Agenda, including specific actions in several internal and external policies. One of the main ones is the European Consensus on Development, the framework within which the European Training Foundation defines its strategies.

Working in partnership: a successful methodology

Promoting international cooperation across countries, also by means of interinstitutional partnerships, is at the core of the ETF’s action – the only European agency that is a knowledge hub in human capital development in the EU's neighbouring countries. The continuous development of new partnership networks is the natural evolution of fruitful collaboration and is one of ETF's key objectives.

ETF is constantly working on expanding its networks and establishing solid relationships with non-EU countries through projects, studies and evidence-based policy analysis to provide first-class support for improving vocational training. In addition to its resources, ETF is part of a network of agencies active in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The aim is to keep abreast of indicators and best practices in sustainability, TVET and Work-Based Learning (WBL).

Identifying the right skills, anticipating them and preventing mismatch requires either a country-specific approach or an overview that considers countries with similar needs. Following the principles of transparency, ETF has adhered to a set of targets for the 2021-2027 years set by the European Commission. Four networks are already active, identifying priorities in their area of expertise:

ETF is constantly working to support more and more non-EU partner countries through the development of reports, projects and policy advice in lifelong learning and the labour market. We collaborate at every level, from public bodies and governments to NGOs, training centres, teachers and communities, because education - sustainable education - is and must continue to be a priority in tomorrow's world
