Summer Academy on Sustainable Entrepreneurship

Year/Date: 2011/06/28

Summer Academy on Sustainable Entrepreneurship

ETF will host a Summer Entrepreneurship Academy. The event will be held in cooperation with German international aid organisation, GIZ, at Villa Gualino in Turin on 4-8 July.

The Academy involves a group of budding entrepreneurs and recently established businesses from Algeria. It will focus particularly on the theme of sustainable enterprise development.

The programme includes a series of case studies where participants will be able to learn how and why greener approaches to business development are important to Algeria's economic development. Tutors and presenters from Algeria, Germany, Morocco, Italy and ETF will bring concrete business expertise and experience.

There will be site visits to local businesses in Turin where participants will have direct access to business owners and managers contributing to a 'real world' dimension of the week's learning. Participants will also spend a half-day at the Politecnico di Torino, where experts from an on-site incubator will demonstrate the contribution of staff and students to greener, innovative business.

ETF experts working on skills for sustainable development are contributing to the programme. 'Businesses being more sensitive to environmental concerns is an increasingly important policy area for the European Union,' says ETF enterprise expert, Anthony Gribben, referring to the EU Small Business Act, which underlines the importance of business responsibility for environmental concerns. 'We are pleased to co-host the Academy with our partners from GIZ with whom we cooperate on a number of areas,’ Mr Gribben added.

The Academy is financially supported by GIZ.
