ETF partner countries join European Alliance for Apprenticeships

Year/Date: 06/10/2016

EU candidate countries Albania, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey have joined the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA), with Serbia set to follow.

Managed by the European Commission, in close cooperation with EU social partners, the European Alliance involves a wide-range of stakeholders working together to strengthen the quality, supply, image and mobility of apprenticeships.

The latest members got together at a regional seminar in Kayseri, Turkey, organised by the EAfA in collaboration with DG Employment and the European Training Foundation.

Members from the EU Delegation to Turkey, the Turkish Confederation of Employers’ Associations (TISK), the Ministry for EU Affairs and the Ministry of National Education were among the participants.

The European Commission stressed the importance of apprenticeships and the EAfA in the context of the New Skills Agenda for Europe. Candidate countries shared key challenges and developments, discovered good practice examples from Europe and developed action plans to move forward.

Participants also made site visits to textile and furniture businesses, a vocational education and training school, and the Erciyes Technopark Regional Innovation Centre, which will join the European Alliance. Turkey will continue to engage other stakeholders, particularly companies, to join the European Alliance.
