Building Green - Greening the construction sector - Moving forward in provision of skills for the green transition

European Training Foundation’s Network for Excellence supports vocational excellence development together with more than 300 centres of vocational excellence from more than 40 countries.

The network’s global green VET partnership, GRETA (Greening Responses to Excellence through Thematic Actions), supports greening of VET as response to the green and digital transitions.

The online sessions under ENE GRETA initiative present and share good practices. At the webinar on 26 March from 12.00 to 14.30 CET, we zoom in on the construction sector.

Buildings currently contribute to nearly 40% of global energy-related carbon emissions. Within this, almost 30% stems from operational emissions, which are generated from the energy required to heat, cool, and power buildings. The remaining 10% of emissions originate from materials and construction processes.

It is evident that urgent action is needed ! - And a skilled workforce is vital for innovation and emission reduction.

We will explore the adoption of sustainable materials and innovative technologies, along with a deep dive into examples of occupational standards and green VET programmes for the construction sector.

Key takeaways from the online event:

  • Insights into cutting-edge green materials and technologies
  • Construction value chain explained
  • Discussions on green vocational education and training programs – Ireland and Slovenia
  • Green Continuous Professional Development initiatives – Moldova and Canada
  • UNESCO-UNEVOC – BIBB on greening the construction sector
